Funeral
services for Angie L. Verchota of Jackson were held Friday afternoon, Dec.
31, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, with Pastor Michael
McCallum officiating. Angie L. Verchota died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at the
Jackson Good Samaritan Center. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in
Jackson.
Casket bearers were Richard Dys, John Gee, Steven Verchota, James Graves,
Jerry Benjamin and Robert Benjamin. Ushers were Rick Verchota and Doyle
Skarda. Eleanor Hutchinson was the organist. The Sathe-Osterberg Funeral
Home of Jackson was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Angie Lillian Verchota, daughter of D.C. Benjamin and Mittie A. Clipperton,
was born March 27, 1905, in Enterprise Township, Jackson County. She
graduated from Jackson High School in 1924 and attended Normal School and
Mankato Teacher’s College. After her education, she taught country school
for three years.
On June 19, 1927, she was united in marriage to Joseph Verchota in
Fairmont. After marriage, they made their home in Jackson. In 1942, she
returned to teaching. She taught in District #39, #87 and #11, which was
later District #695. She also taught at the Loon Lake School before
retiring in 1965. Her husband, Joseph, died on March 20, 1969. Angie
continued to make her home in Jackson. In December of 1997, she moved to
The Pines in Jackson, and on Dec. 18, 2003, she became a resident of the
Jackson Good Samaritan Center.
Angie had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson since
1936, where she had been active as a deacon and had served on the Library
Board. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a Past Matron. She had
been Senior Citizen president and a member of the Pink Ladies at the
hospital.
Angie is survived by one daughter, Joyce Williams of Clinton, Ark.; one
son, Richard and wife Carolyn Verchota of Rochester, Minn.; three
grandchildren, Richard 'Rick' Verchota, Steven Verchota and Michelle
Verchota; and four great-grandchildren.
Angie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers; and
three sisters. |
