Lovina lost her right leg when she was 35 years old, and wore a wooden leg thereafter. According to family lore, the incident occurred in 1903; she was on top of the barn helping put on a new roof . She fell and her injured leg had to be amputated below the knee. She was pregnant with her son Peter at the time. |
