Artifacts
Lovina wore this black dress with the lace collar in the 1930s.

Lovina lost her right leg when she was 35 years old,
and wore a wooden leg thereafter.  According to
family lore, the incident occurred in 1903; she was
on top of the barn helping put on a new roof .  She
fell and her injured leg had to be amputated below the
knee.   She was pregnant with her son Peter at the time.
Left: Lovina laced this
prosthetic leg around
her lower thigh.

Below:  The leg bent at a
hinge that served as a knee.

Right:  Lovina's cane had black fabric wrapped around the handle.
