Obituary-----MRS. Burling
Mrs. Burling who has been very sick for some time
past died at her home in this city last Saturday morning.
Although it was known that she could not get well and her death was
expected at any time, the news came as a shock to the community.
During her long life in this community she was known to nearly
everybody for her many acts of kindness. she lived a long and useful life.
The funeral service was conducted from the Methodist church in this
city of which she was a charter member, by the Rev. C. H. Croft. The
burial was in the Arlington Cemetery.
The bereaved children and other relatives and friends have the
sympathy of their many friends in this their hour of trouble.
Catharine Francis Tennis was born February 5th, 1840; departed this
life April 3, 1915 at the age of seventy-five years, one month and
twenty-six days.
She was born at Fort Wayne, Indiana. While yet small moved with her
parents to Stillwell Prairie, La Porte County, Indiana, where she grew to
womanhood. At the age of fifteen she professed her faith in Jesus Christ,
joining the Methodist church of which she has always been a faithful and
consistent member.
On February 25, 1862 she was united in marriage to Robert Burling in
Kankakee County, Illinois. To this union were born ten children, five of
whom died while quite young.
They came to Kansas in January, 1877 and settled on their homestead
east of Arlington where they resided until 1904, when on account of
failing health, they moved to Arlington. Shortly after they moved to town
her husband died leaving her a widow.
Sister Burling lived here with her children until her death. She was
here when this church was organized and became a charter member.
She leaves children, grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her
loss, but our loss is Heaven's gain.
